Today, Cool Boy is five!! We have a full day planned in the city, including rides in Victoria Gardens in Central Park, free birthday yogurt at 16 Handles, and jaunt up to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building.

I can say with certainty that this has been the best five years of my life. Granted, other five-year spans of my life include my chunky, oddly dressed time in elementary school and a girlfriend-less college career. But enough humor at my expense; today is about our Cool Boy!

Happy Birthday to our first son and our favorite five-year-old! Happy Birthday, Noah!

wonderwash-new-york-parenting-blogWhile Cool Mum roamed Manhattan for her birthday, I wanted to bless her with another gift at home: doing the laundry.

At first I told CM that I would go to the laundromat with the Cool Bros to knock it all out. When I got home, I looked at the two huge bags of dirty clothes, then at Cool Boy, then at Cool Newbie, then at the 1.5 flights of stairs, back at Cool Boy, then Newbie, then at the clock to see if it was time for CM to come home yet.

The task of hauling all of that laundry and All My Children downstairs and a couple of blocks down the street didn’t look so promising. I turned to our old friend, the Wonderwash. It’s the thought that counts, right?

Fortunately, I wasn’t washing any of CM’s favorite light-colored pieces. But if you see CB wearing light blue socks in a video, think of them as CM’s birthday present from me.

It’s not even 5am, and the whole crew is eagerly awaiting the day’s celebrations! I sit here in Cool Dad’s “office” downstairs, trying with all my might to keep Cool Newbie from busting into the bedrooms where everyone else is sleeping. (Why oh why do none of our doorknobs actually latch?) Oops. Cool Boy just came out and joined us in the office now at 4:48am.

Even though this is a normal start-the-day-at-4am routine for us, we ARE all super excited for Cool Dad’s milestone birthday!!!  Why? Well, of course, because he is the best guy in the whole entire world to us. We thank God for him and his effortless humor, coolness overflowing from his pores, and caring heart for all of those around him.

On top of this, we are having a family day in the city! Eating and partying our way through the Bronx, Midtown and the Upper East Side! Check our Twitter for the updates!
