There is much joy in the Cool Duplex. It’s a time for new sights and smells. New dishes to be done. New mornings and evenings, new life.
After several weeks of anticipation and rough mornings, it’s here. Little Proctor Silex is here – 4 lbs, 2 ounces, 12.5 inches, and white as snow. Our brand spanking new… coffeemaker.
Honestly, Cool Mum and I are not coffee drinkers [-3 cool points]. We never picked it up, even though coffee was a staple in our households growing up. But the Cool Roomies are thrilled and unpacked their new coffeemaker tonight with glee and relief.
CM and I are uncool for not being java junkies, but at least the Cool Duplex will smell cool every morning. I wonder how Cool Baby will react: “What’s that smell, daddy? May I have a jumbo large iced venti, daddy?” (and that’s probably not even a drink, which goes to show how much I actually know about coffee).
The best part of waking up…is seeing a happy Cool Roomie with their coffee cup.
Are you a coffee lover? Or have you resisted the lure of Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Stumptown et al?

I’m not a coffee drinker. I wish I was – it might make becoming a morning person a little easier.
I’ve found that getting up at 10:00 am makes being a morning person easier. Then again, I can’t remember the last time I did that.
Ha ha! I was totally fooled when i started reading this post! “they had their baby?!?!?”
he he…i attempted to be a coffee drinker for about three weeks back in Dec. I drank one cup every morning, but over time, i found myself with a fast-beating heart by the time i got to the subway every morning. Not liking that feeling very much, i stopped my coffee habit and went back to a diet coke in the late morning.
Thank you – we don’t need any more “sick passengers” on the train!
I am DEFINITELY a coffee person! I’ve been drinking coffee [with lots of milk] since I was 3, so you may be right about CB (:
As for what kind of coffee I like, Starbucks all the way. I don’t like DD coffee at all.
Wow – since the age of 3?? Do they make coffee sippy mugs?
Nah, my mom just put it in a regular sippy cup.
Ouch – hot sippy cup! (that’s a good name for a band)
I love coffee! Unfortunately, when I was diagnosed with crohn’s disease my doc told me no caffeine and decaff just doesn’t taste the same. I used to have two cups every afternoon, now none. I could never stand Starbucks coffee though they do have some good lattees. I loved Dunkin Doughnuts’ “turbo hot,” I don’t think they call it that anymore, but it’s a coffee with a shot of espresso, yum!
At least you’re saving a fair chunk of change (unless you’ve replaced coffee with something like Chick fil-A sandwiches, which sounds like something that I would totally do).
Took me a second, but I am glad you didn’t name your son Proctor
I too have eschewed (pretty sure that’s a word) the taste of coffee, but that just means I have more room for doughnuts
More room for doughnuts = always a good idea!
LOL! You got me too! I thought you named your child Proctor Silex for a second there!
I’m a huge addict…like hook me up to the IV addict.
Saying a “jumbo large iced venti” is basically saying you want an iced large (venti is large) – so the next question would be “of what?” Perhaps he’d like a Caramel Macchiato. That’s the funnest one to say (and tastes pretty good too).
Congrats to the roomies. I understand their excitement.
PS. We’ll be in NYC in 3 days!
I guess you’re in NYC today! Yeah, I don’t think that Proctor would work with Corpus, though he’d always have a job moderating standardized testing.
