Have you ever been on TV?

Despite all of the neat things that God has let me do over the years, I’ve never made it to the small screen, meaning I’ve never been on TV. Well, there was the one time when the local news posted a 5-second sound bite for an event that I planned while they listed all of the important details wrong.

Cool Mum was on that beloved, controversy-free late night program The Tonight Show with Jay Leno a few years back. During a band trip to California, she met up with a good friend and they attended a taping. The two young ladies made it to the platform where Jay did his monologue, so she was front and center when Jay high-fived the crowd at the start of the show.

My best chance of being on TV is moving back to Florida and raising a shirtless ruckus when the COPS film crew is at the local precinct. I also wholeheartedly believe that ‘Shirtless Ruckus’ is a stunning name for a band.

  1. As a matter of fact, I have been on TV! If local news counts. NO! Not in a COPS sort of way! I’ve been interviewed twice for charity events I was working on. The bigger TV station was exciting until I saw the broadcast – and they had zoomed in on my face, making me look ginormous. But, I guess I can still say I was on TV. After all, there was no missing that face…

  2. I haven’t really been on tv, but last week Ellen Degeneres said my name on her show. I’d sent in a picture for her “What’s wrong with these photos? photos” segment that she ended up using. Made my week.

  3. Australia doesn’t really count since we’re so small. But I’ve been on national TV quite a few times.

    - 3 times on the national news – interviews about housing interest rates, and other thrilling stuff like that. Right place right time stuff (or wrong place wrong time, depending on your point of view)

    - as part of a 45 minute documentary made about a choir I was in at high school as we toured the UK. That was 20 years ago and it still occasionally gets shown at 1am on the day after Christmas in a case of exceptionally lazy programming.

  4. 3 times…Twice on the local news as part of a self-defense class and visiting a retiring Santa in my neighborhood. AND…on the Today Show when I was in NYC for 3 days…you need to catch up :) The Santa and Today Show were both in the space of a week.

  5. My wife & I were on Leno back in 1995. Alas, it was just the back of our heads. A friend took us there the night before we moved to England. (Very nice of her!)

  6. Thanks to the ever popular Gators for Gameday, I made it on ESPN doing the Gator Chomp as they came back from commercial my sophomore year there. It ranks in my “greatest things in my life” to this day :) Not as exciting, but longer lasting, I was the face of the college I worked at for a marketing season. I did a few commercials that aired on tv and then got to have my voice on the radio for a bit as well. Go to somewhere as exciting as South Dakota and your tv dreams may just come true! :)

  7. CU (Cool Uncle) was on “Breakfast With the Gators” for the Florida @ South Carolina game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sz19iK8GOs

(I’m the Asian guy in the #11 Steve Spurrier throwback Gator jersey doing the Gator Chomp – the one that kinda looks like Cool Dad)
