Imagine that Simon Cowell, discoverer of all persons talented, comes upon you in the mall as you wrestled with a critical decision: whether or not to hit up the Auntie Anne’s. He approaches you with eyes wide open and mouth agape, exclaiming, “You’re a star!”
He explains that he’s starting a new entertainment company that will surely take both the music and movie industries by storm. He wants you to be the flagship talent in the company, but there’s one catch: You have to pick either movies or music. No Miley Cyrus-type fame for you… yet.
If it happened to me, I would choose movie stardom. I know what you’re thinking: “Of course, Cool Dad! You’ve already achieved rock stardom as lead guitarist for the band ‘six days from Sunday’, which rocks worship for hundreds of middle schoolers a year.” You may find it hard to believe, but I think that the kind of rock stardom that Simon would offer me would even eclipse my current fame, which happens to be eclipsed by a band member that doesn’t exist anyway.
Movies intrigue me and move me. I (try to) write them. I’d love to have the chance to step in front of the camera and build upon my last role as awkward and apparently-mute Billy in a sweet middle-school summer nature camp video.
So, I would tell Simon that I would be his first movie star. And then we’d have cinnamon sugar pretzels to celebrate.
Which would you choose to be – a rock star or a movie star – and why?

neither. i’m more of a behind the scenes person…as you know. plus I can’t either act or sing to save my life, so there’s that too. LOL
You’re pretty much a rock star in our eyes anyway!
Hey Polina. I’ve decided that we should stop emailing each other and just communicate via Eric’s comment section.
That sounds like a great idea.
I would have to say rock star. I love playing music way too much.
From your cool Gravatar, I say that you already are.
Rock star. Definitely a rock star. It’s more likely anyway. Not likely. Just more likely.
You never know when that perfect melody will pop into your head!
Rock star. Because I still regret not trying out for American Idol. And now. Now I’m too old. TOO OLD!
There’s an age limit for American Idol? I thought they removed it.
I’d like to start out with being a Dance Star, then surprise people with my Movie Star talent, and then drop the triumvirate by easing into Rock Star.
If I can’t do that, then Rock Star right off the bat.
I look forward to seeing you dance shirtless with female celebrities on ABC very soon!
Ohhh, totally a movie star. I study at a college library near where I live, and they’re filming a movie there right now (It’s called “The Genesis Code”…I think it’s only for the Sci-Fi Channel, but still). I see people toting lights and cameras around, and I just think the whole business looks like so much FUN…
Our first vote for a movie star! Lots of filming going on around here. We’ll admit to stalking around when a Harrison Ford/Diane Keaton film was taping around the corner from our place.
If I had the talent for either? MOVIE STAR. I don’t like performing live. Plus, I’m afraid my rock star voice would wear out from overuse. PLUS PLUS, being a movie star would bring me one step closer to acting alongside some dashing young stud. Ben Barnes and Joseph-Gordon Levitt, I’m looking at you….
Also, thanks for the super-encouraging comment you left on my blog a couple of weeks back. That means a lot to me, especially coming from a godly person with with more life experience!
