Clifford the Big Red Dog sings of my suburban fate

The Cool Apartment has once again been filled of talk of “How long are we staying in New York?” The conversation always ends with Cool Dad realizing that I (Cool Mum) can turn any negative talk about NY into one of its greatest attributes. Dead rat smell? Promotes respect for life because it reminds passersby that death is always a tragedy. Crowded sidewalks? Just an opportunity to love your neighbors…all at the same time. Smoke/exhaust blowing in your face? Well, um, it makes you tougher…yeah, that’s it.

I’m realizing that Cool Dad’s feelings aren’t quite as strong as mine in favor of the city. He finds me to be annoyingly biased, and I’m sure he’s not the only one!

Even Clifford the Big Red Dog is subtly telling me I am going to end up moving back to the suburbs one day. Check out the theme song–if you look closely, you’ll see their cool NY brownstone apartment, then you see them happily galloping through Central Park, and then they move to a big house in the suburbs.  It’s quite a tear-jerker for a weirdo like me who much prefers living in 300 sq ft.

CD–think I’m imagining things? I did a little research on the Clifford author. He came up with the story while working in our city and named the Emily Elizabeth character after his infant daughter. I wonder if his love made her grow so big that the author had to leave his home in NYC.

hmmm…..but will your suburb life be near mine :) Suburbs aren’t all bad, I promise!
