The hugetastic news is here

nymagpicLike many good stories, the epic, hugetastic news of Are We Still Cool? actually comes in parts. Although, unlike many good stories, it may or may not be a good story. Some parts are obvious, some may not be. Let’s just start laying it out:

THE NEW BLOG LAYOUT

Our humble blog started two years ago after the birth of our little, bouncing Cool Baby. We tried to think of a funny, yet personally-relevant title, and Are We Still Cool? won out on the voting. To save money (not exactly a new thing around here), we used Blogspot so we wouldn’t have to pay for web hosting. Cool Dad knew that other blogging platforms could do more, but we figured that Blogspot would be fine for our li’l ol’ blog.

Well, after hundreds of posts and probably just as many complaints from CD, we’re finally making the switch to the sweetness that is WordPress. We have a lot left to do with the blogroll, plugins, widgets, doodads, and whatzits in the coming days, but we just couldn’t wait to get this out. We hope you like it so far!

THE NEW MANAGEMENT

Cool Dad loves the song “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who. The epic rock classic ends with the lyric, Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. That’s fitting because there’s a change in ownership. Sort of.

For two years, Cool Dad and Mum have tromped through the blogosphere (with Cool Baby in tow), leaving comments and making blog friends. You’ve gotten to know us: quirky and neurotic , too cheap for our own good, and unworthy lovers of Jesus.

However, we’re feeling more adventurous than we were in the infant days of the blog and Cool Baby. We left the safety of our home of over a decade, Gainesville, FL, and moved to New York City with no job or plans waiting for us. We jumped from apartment to apartment.

Cool Dad finally landed a job as the office manager of a non-profit organization. It’s something a little different to do with a degree in Industrial Engineering, but he hasn’t quite used that degree yet. Why start now?

Cool Mum has pushed Cool Baby all around Manhattan, exploring and making new friends all the while. She could be skyrocketing up the corporate ladder with her Masters in International Business, but she’s living out her true calling just strolling the stroller through Central Park.

The two years of this blog have been a lot of fun, but we need a change, a reboot. A new layout is a start, but alas, it’s time to put in some fresh blood as well.

So, here are the new bosses, same as the old bosses:

Hi, we’re Eric and Laura Corpus. Our cool little boy Noah says hi. We’re looking forward to re-getting to know you all.

We’ll still be Cool Mum and Dad, but now AWSC? can go places that anonymity would never allow us. This is going to be fun.

And to close – how in the world did we sneak into that picture of all of the truly cool, hot hipsters? Cool Mum answers that tomorrow.

now i know who’s name to ask for when or if i ever make to to NYC ;-)

  3. HI!!!! Eric and Laura, it is so nice to meet you. And I looooove the name, Noah! And this blog layout – very clean, very nice. And my name on the blogroll? Very cool.

I’ll try to stop with the exclamation points and the verys. But I’m excited for you, and love all this. Love. It.

  4. Elizabeth Bradley says:

So fun! I love surprises… and I love the new look. :) Looking forward to all that is to come…

  5. Raquel TWG says:

    Finally! Haha.
Although it’s not AS exciting for me because I already knew who Cool Dad was [or is, you're still alive] as of last month, it’s nice to “meet” Cool Mum and Baby (:
Honestly though, it’ll be hard to stop calling you CD and CM. It’s already a habit!

  6. Hip Mama says:

Nice to meet you guys! The funny thing is…I also in a round about sort of way revealed our names earlier today…in a 10 year Anniversary note to my Hip Hubby. Looking forward to the new site…and thanks for keeping me in the blogroll :) Change is good, and both of our families have had a lot of change this year. Change is good.

  7. GATORosie says:

Awww! It was so much fun keeping your guys’ identity a secret. So what are some examples of “places that anonymity would never allow” you to go? Just curious. This is exciting news but I’m still holding my breath until ALL of the news is announced.

  8. cool dad says:

matt – who did you expect, Jacob?

joshua – sweet – you have no reason to come visit now!

mary – we have your blogroll entry wrong :( that’ll be fixed soon

elizabeth – i’m glad that we could surprise :)

raq – i think we’ll keep the CD, CM monikers :)

hip – today’s the day for coming clean, i guess!

  9. ScottMocha says:

Ok, I almost hate to admit this, but for just a split second I thought that the “real” names were actually new people that you were passing the blog off to. Ummm… I know, how completely stupid. I guess I have been living in France for too long (however, in the US as I type this.)

All of that to say wow. It’s funny how much I already feel like I know you two, and I still find it funny that CB looks away and wont return my texts. BUT SERIOUSLY… It’s cool (+10) to meet you, and I am excited to see and expreience the NEXT chapter alongside my new/old friends. And FYI, I DIG the new layout. I might even have to copy it exactly and then start a blog feud with you about who had it first… Oh no, that means this might be used as evidence… ummm…. nevermind.

Big hugs from Oklahoma, and please know that there are constant prayers from Paris for you (just not at the moment… dang Okies are tying me down.)

The future is now, and it’s great to be here with you ALL.

    Blessings,

    Scott

  12. cool dad says:

scott – i was thinking that it might be perceived like that. glad to know that we got your heart racing for a little bit. yeah, i’m happy withe the layout, too. i’m looking forward to dressing it all up. i heart wordpress!

brooke – God is SO great!

polina – no maybes about it. we WILL see you!

  13. cool mum says:

thanks to all for the encouragement! cool dad and i have a ton of fun putting this thing together, together. (is that grammatically correct?)

gatorosie–i think cool dad feels excited about the possibility of the crowds cheering and yelling his actual name when he walks down the street, instead of the usual “hey cool dad!!! i love you man!!!” =)

  14. Amy says:

So, now can I tell the part about how we knew that all along? And how we have been speaking in code right along with you trying to keep your little secret??? Ahhh!! Freedom!!!

Love the new look. Hope to be spending more time here again soon…

  15. Rowan says:
