Cool Vegetarian Challenge update: into the weekend…

March 27, 2009  |  um... ok

It’s Friday night, I haven’t had a bite of tasty, succulent, heavenly meat…

*snaps out of it*

OK, I haven’t had any meat since Monday, and I think I’m doing fine. I did take the wrong train and ended up in Montreal, but everyone makes mistakes, right?

Here’s how the meals have been working out:

BREAKFAST
I rarely have meat for breakfast anyway. It’s usually peanut butter and banana sandwiches or oatmeal.

LUNCH
This is the tough one. If I don’t bring leftovers, I usually go out for a snack wrap from McD’s or cheap chicken around the corner from the office. Going meatless has mainly left me with pizza as the only close, inexpensive option.

However, I actually didn’t even have lunch a couple of days this week. I don’t know how I made it through the day, but I just had a snack around 11 am, and I cruised until 7 or 8 for dinner. My stomach’s probably all confused with the lack of animal proteins coming down the pipe.

DINNER
As I said before, Cool Mum racked up on a Gardenburger sale last week, so that’s been our main staple. Tonight, we went to a place called Taim Falafel & Smoothie Bar in the West Village. I was never a fan of falafels until now. It was insanely good. I’ll let this picture do the talking.

This weekend will probably mean more Gardenburgers and some curry chickpeas and rice. I was joking with my coworker that next Tuesday (when Veg Week is up) I’m going to have mounds of meat with every meal. But honestly, that doesn’t sound that appealing right now.

Who am I and what have I done with the real Cool Dad??

  1. Go CD you can do it! Have you heard of the book “Skinny Bitch”? My friend recently recommended it to me and it has convinced me to also attempt a life of vegetarianism. It’s a fun, easy, and very informative read.

Sorry, CD, but that falafel business looks, well, awful. (I know, but it couldn’t be helped.)

I’m glad your experiment has gone well, though. I’ve had a vegetarian day – muffin for breakfast and baked potato for lunch. But I’m pretty sure meat will be involved in dinner…

  3. GATORosie – I hadn’t heard of the book. I’ll look it up. Thanks!

Mary – Fortunately, the falafels there have been rated by many as the best in the city. As an avid meat lover, I admit that they were some rocking falafels (good name for a band).
