Just a thought after the inauguration:
Would President Barack Obama be as fervently beloved if George W. Bush had done better than what’s believed to be a bad job (22% approval rating)?
In other words, how much do you think of the hype and rejoicing is because of the end of the Bush presidency?
I think it certainly has to do with Bush’s performance and/or approval rating.
I had to wonder as I watched yesterday what President Bush was thinking and feeling. Was he relieved to be finished? Was he lost, wondering what he’ll do now? Did he just want to take a three-day nap? Just curious…
Before I write a response, I’ll start by saying that I don’t hate Obama and/or people who voted/love him.
I don’t think my opinion matters much but based on the Obama fanatics I know, I would say….90-95% of the hype is solely a result of there being no more Bush (the other 5-10% makes up the more respectible Obama SUPPORTERS –not fanatics– I know). Honestly. During the last couple months and now, I seldom hear about the great things about Obama. But all I hear about is the bad things about Bush and the super cliche “WE NEED CHANGE” crap. I don’t think they care about who does the change, as long as he’s not like Bush. I mean, of course I agree that we need change, but I think people should stop treating Obama like he’s God. People worship this guy like he’s the one who’s going to be doing all the changing/”saving us from Bush”, and all overnight. Obama is human and is just a tool that God is going to use to make changes. Because of that, sure I support him completely, because I support God’s decisions.
I agree. I think most of it HAS to be because it’s the end of the Bush era. How can people love Obama so much, when he hasn’t even had a chance to do anything yet?! I hope we have some positive changes in our near future, but I am afraid that some of these fanatical supporters will be sorely disappointed that the President is not able to change the world the way they’ve come to believe he will.
