Check out my fabulous new home office

Yes, it’s the only room in our studio apartment that has a door. The bathroom. And that is our teeny tiny dining table and chair.

This past weekend I needed to do some work for my very minimal part time job. Some of the time, Cool Dad and Cool Baby were out on the town together. The rest of the time was spent in the apartment, with me hiding from CB in my new office. It was working out well, but we did get off to a rough start.

After an hour or so, I got to a place in my work where I needed CD to bring me my notebook full of papers. I quietly waited until I could hear CB’s stomping a distance from the bathroom door, quietly stuck my head out and mouthed “I need that notebook” to CD, then quietly retreated without being seen by the baby. Pretty smooth, I thought.

I waited for a while for CD to crack open the door and pass me the important notebook. I figured he was waiting for just the right moment and that maybe CB was tough to distract. Then I heard the frightful sound of a paper being torn. “What’s going on out there?!”

I opened the door to find a diapered baby going through my notebook and ripping out a page. Apparently CD thought I would know that he left it in front of the door for me. In the meantime, CB had started doing my work for me. CB was even handing sections of papers to CD, who was so involved in his video games that he didn’t notice what was happening!

Nothing was permanently damaged this time, so I closed myself back into the bathroom and finished my work to the sound of a few minutes of “Mum…..mum…..muh-muh….muh-MUH….MUHHHHH-MUHHHHHHHH” outside the door.

Have you ever entered the room to find a child “helping” you with your work?

Oh, CM, your office cracks me up! At least you don’t really have to break for, um, bathroom business.

I haven’t yet had the child helping me work experience, but last night Photobaby learned how to open DVD cases. All of them. The very precious DVDs that occasionally keep her entertained. Who knows how scratched they are – I couldn’t even look! I just scooped them up, found her a better toy and put them back in the cases.

Good luck with your office space!!

  2. I thought of a story…
I was paying bills at my desk and my son, who at that time was a little guy maybe around 3 or 4 y.o., was right beside me having fun putting papers through the shredder. Well, I didn’t noticed that he had grabbed my property tax bill by accident and shredded it. Oops.

btw, how wonderful that you found a part-time job you can do at home.

  3. That is an awesome office!

And, oh the helpers. My niece and newphew like to mop and sweep…

I thought my home office space was tough … do you have room for your coffee maker? Sorry, no real good kid stories related to the home office.

  5. That’s hysterical! Way to be resourceful.

Our girls are BIG “helpers.” My piano is full of pens and pencils – not on it…IN it. And Chloe is “folding clothes” as we speak, bless her heart.

  6. Oh my goodness… I think you deserve some kind of award for “most cramped work space.” :) I can just picture your face as you’re mouthing to CD, and I can picture him distracted as CB “helps” you… so funny and yet not from your perspective. :)
