For my last post, I woke up at 2:20 AM and decided to write it. I had written the first paragraph a couple of weeks ago and had been thinking about where to go with it. I would love to write/blog for a living, so I need to learn how to write faster. I imposed a 1-hour deadline on myself for the post. I was finally happy with the result at 4:20 AM, an hour late.
I tell myself it’s OK, because I like the post, and it took two hours of thought, research, writing, and editing to get it where it is. However, that probably won’t cut it professionally. I read in a blog article that we bloggers more often need to just write, post, and forget it. Each post doesn’t have to be purfect, you just need to get it out – keep the content coming for your readers.
Now, this post took 7 minutes to write. That’s more like it, though I kind of miss the lame jokes. Oh well, I’m a blogger-in-training.
How long does it take you to write your typical blog post?

It varies, but even on long posts, I might spend an hour off and on crafting a post. I like to write it the outline out quickly and then take a break and come back later to see it with fresh eyes.
The thing that amuses me is the effort I put into it. When I started a blog I didn’t treat it as seriously. Now, it’s practically a part of my job.
It depends on how distracted I get! And obviously how long the post is. I say the average is like 30 minutes a post. 10-15 on sort things like Song Spotlights or poems that I already have written out. But it takes me one-two hours to write loooong posts, the posts where I’m telling a story or something. Those are usually 1000 or 2000 words long. Yeah, I like rambling.
I usually take about an hour or so, but that’s only counting research, writing and editing. It’s not counting the many hours I spend thinking of topics or reacting to everyday life with the automatic, “I should blog about that.”
Occasionally, I should spend more time. Because more than once I’ve re-read a post and realized I made a grammar mistake or just didn’t write it as well as I could have. In those cases, I edit. I know it’s a blogging no-no, editing after posting, but I do it for those little mistakes that would otherwise drive me crazy!
Each day is different and I can’t really come up with an average at the moment. It seems like the deeper, more emo posts can take a couple hours or I’ll work on it here or there over a period of time just to get all the right words and thoughts to make sense. But there are days when I sit down and type out something I’m comfortable with in 5 minutes. I’m trying hard to never regret anything I say on my blog, so I’d rather take my time and pray about what I’m writing.
I am that person that just writes and whatever comes out is what you get. Sometimes the post makes sense and sometimes it doesn’t. I am pretty sure I have never had a post without some sort of spelling or grammar error.
(Did you spell “purfect” wrong on purpose, or was it just that perfect?)

i’d say the average is 30 minutes.
It’s different each time. A lot of times it only takes about 20 minutes, but the last post I did took 3 days, because I couldn’t think of three more things to finish out the list of ten.
