At least he has a future in the barrel industry

First it was the whining-slash-roaring. Then, came the stamping when he didn’t get his way. Finally, a piece of fruit sealed the deal.

We believe that Cool Baby is actually Donkey Kong. Well, at least Donkey Kong, Jr.

We must name the next boy Mario and accept the Jacob-and-Esau-like struggle that will ensue.

Wait, if he’s Donkey Kong, Jr., what does that make me?…

Updates about chocolate, etc.

I am tired from walking across Manhattan (literally) all day. Brody’s Stats Suck Sunday to the rescue!

- I have a part-time internship doing what of course is my life’s passion: blogging! It’s unpaid, but it’s a lot of fun.

- I have a job interview tomorrow for a part-time job. I would get paid, so that’s a lot of fun, too.

- CM and the boy are flying back to Florida for the week as we’ll be between apartments. I’m not quite sure where I’ll sleep the next few nights. I’m curious to see how this pans out.

- I saw Brooke Fraser play on Tuesday night. Gremlins in the sound system seemed to have gotten to her, but she and the band still sounded great. I was just as happy to see the guy next to her as I was Brooke. Michael Chaves is an incredibly talented guitarist who creates delicious, ambient textures. He often backs John Mayer, so it was a treat to see him.

Friday night, we had this with a friend for her birthday.

Yesterday, we had these. They were good and likely very, very bad for us.

And the boy loves Central Park.

As you can tell, we’re enjoying God’s blessings up here. Thanks for all of your prayers!!

Mayo is not okay-o with me

September 24, 2008 |  by cool dad  |  um... ok  |  21 Comments

Between talking about deep New York-related observations and trying to be professional at my internship, I haven’t had much time for some good silly talk. So, I want to break out for a second.

I don’t like mayonnaise.

It’s helpful in holding a Chick Fil-A chicken salad sandwich together or making a chocolate cake moist and rich, but on its own, I’m not a fan. Kind of like a Jonas Brother trying to go solo, like the the one with the shaggy hair. He would probably strike out, but together those three make sweet, sweet music. Actually, I don’t know jack about the Jonas Bros., but my point is made.

I often regret when I forget to hold the mayo on a Backyard Burger Jr. Burger or Arby’s Turkey Bacon Ranch sandwich. Then I have to scrape that creamy mess off of the top bun with a french fry, napkin, or credit card.

CM, however, LOVES mayo. Every Chick Fil-A sandwich she has gets ruined with a packet of Kraft Light Mayo slathered all over it. It’s a testament to my love of CFA that I’ll still finish off her food.

It was her dream come true when we went to Belgium and got one of their trademark snacks: fries with mayo. The mustard fries are mine.

I think that mayo was blacklisted when I saw the infomercial for the Thunderstick, the powerful handheld blender that made fresh fruit smoothies and whipped cream from skim milk. Basically, you take raw eggs and a lot of vegetable oil and whip it into a frothy, artery-destroying concoction. (the yuck begins around 1:00)

Hellmans. Miracle Whip. Publix. It doesn’t matter. No race, color, or religion of mayo finds favor in my eyes. Sorry for the diatribe, but you know how I emotional I get about these fundamental life issues. So much for trying to be funny.

Where do you stand in the battle of good vs. mayo?

Cool weather Cool Baby

It got cold for a couple of days last week, and we were caught off-guard. Since we packed as lightly as possible for the move up here, we didn’t have any warm clothes for the boy.

Fortunately, we scored a treasure trove of winter clothes from Craigslist on Saturday. However, in the couple of days in between, we had to improvise.
