Falling in love with the Upper East Side, much to Cool Dad’s dismay

August 31, 2008 |  by cool mum  |  NYCool

We’ve only been here for 2 nights, but I am already hooked on this neighborhood. Tree lined streets that are super clean, nice grocery and other stores, Central Park nearby, etc. Maybe I would feel like this about any neighborhood we landed in, who knows?

But falling in love has meant a lot of bias for me, at the worst possible time, while we’re searching for places online. Cool Dad is very open minded, as you can see from his latest mention of Jersey swamp land. We’re going to visit a potential apartment tomorrow that he found. I call it the Teething Palace because it has no neighbors on any sides except for underneath. It’s a good price, large, but outside of Manhattan.

Me–I’m holding out for something here in the UES where everybody in the grocery already loves Cool Baby and the streets make me feel like I’m in Europe all over again (bad “exchange rate” and everything). Not to mention, I feel really cool even though we are all severely underdressed for anything more than running in the water sprinkler at the park and two-thirds of us need a haircut. I can already hear apartment owners singing “I don’t want no scrubs” as they send us away.

The good news here is that we’ve found a great place to stay for Monday-Friday and it is only a few doors down. Very thankful for that.

  4. We were just in NYC in June and stayed in the upper west side around 94th st for a week. We loved the neighborhood, so be flexible. We also loved Brooklyn and Greenwich. NYC is fabulous…praying for the perfect place for you.
