I’m playing with Cool Baby in his room so that he’ll leave my cabinets alone. I decide to lie down for a moment on the floor while he plays. He finds the cordless phone. I figure, “What the heck, we don’t have long distance, so who could he really call? At least it will keep him happy while I rest for a second.”
I hear a voice on the phone after he dials some numbers. I quickly grab it to hang up. As I’m pressing the button, I notice the ominous numbers 9 1 1 on the screen. And no other random numbers attached to the end. Oh crap. I’m not a mathematician, but out of all the numbers he could have dialed, what are the chances?
The phone rings a minute later. No, there is no emergency here. My baby just pressed the numbers. “Uhhh….Okay…” she says.
A few minutes later, a member of the police is at my door asking if everything’s okay and takes a look through my house. I spend some time explaining that every little thing CB does is magic.
All because I wanted to lie down for a moment and my one-year-old baby called the cops on me.

That is hilarious. Proof that kids will beat the odds and find new ways to make your life more interesting.
HAHA!
How adorable! Sort of. He is a very smart baby. Maybe he felt offended that you underestimated his ability to stir up some trouble…Hehe.
HOW EMBARRASSING!!!
confessions of an 80’s mall rat….
i was THE biggest Police fan.
did you know that every breath you take was the number one song of 1983 and spent 13 consecutive weeks at number that same year? is true! i had my own set of dishes that were red, yellow and blue…you know…the colors on the synchronicity album. yes. i ahd it bad. very, very bad.
That’s crazy. Makes for a great story.
Seriously? 911? What are the odds? You’ll definitely have to keep your eye on CB… who knows what he might tell the world about you when he’s 5!
chad–i agree. when i look back at life before CB came along, it seems pretty boring in hindsight.
raquel–never again will i let him play with that phone!
b–indeed embarrassing! at least the officer was forgiving instead of bitter that i wasted his time.
tam–did you get to see the reunion tour?
elizabeth–wow, that is a scary thought. another reason to homeschool! haha
Ha! My nephew did that twice in a couple weeks – but he was 3. Cool Baby is very advanced! My nephew dialed the police one time while we were on vacation. The officer walked in to our condo and said, “who’s the culprit?” We all shoved a very red-faced preschooler to the front of the pack.
