Appreciating fast food gimmicks

July 2, 2008 |  by cool dad  |  cheap is cool, um... ok

July 11 is the 4th Annual Cow Appreciation Day at Chick Fil-A. This world-renowned holiday celebrates everything beautiful and honorable about cows. Well, the Holsteins at least.

Ironically, photoqueen brought up the blessed day in her comment today.

Oh, and by the way, you can get a free Chick Fil-A combo meal if you go in dressed like a cow that day. Any other day may get you free food, too, as in, “Sir, I’ll give you 12 nuggets if you just please leave.”

Last week, our local CFA’s hostess (of course we know her) told me about July 11 and said that I should bring CM and CB . Most normal patrons would nod their head politely and go on eating. I nearly jumped out of my seat at the opportunity. Whether CM feels the same way might be a different story.

I’ve posted before on going to lengths to get free food. Well, dressing up for fast food gimmicks is just one more that I’m not ashamed of.

For evidence, I submit the above photo. Every Halloween (or Fall Festival Day, depending on your sensitivity), Chipotle gives a free burrito to anyone who dresses up like a burrito. Mainly, wrap yourself in foil, and there’s free barbacoa, or whatever else, in your future.

As you’ve probably figured out, the Cool ‘Rents have little shame, so we’ve done this three years running. Sure beats half-unwrapped rolls of Smarties in an orange bucket.

I hope we can make it for Cow Appreciation Day. Missing the chance to eat free fried chicken while dressed like a cow would cause me all sorts of regret. Chasing free food can do that to you.

This post is a part of Watercooler Wednesday.
