A kind of crazy dream is coming true!

When are we supposed to give up on our dreams?

For some, it’s when you have a baby.

Or in college because you have to get serious about choosing a career.

Or in high school when your SAT decides where you can’t go to college.

Or sadly, much earlier as parents, siblings, friends, and teachers constantly discourage.

Well, we have this one silly dream. Some friends understand. Most seem ready to slap us back into the real world. Forget the real world! The God Can Do Anything World is much more fun.

We’re not supposed to have a dream like this. We’re sure as heck not supposed to pursue it.

We have a 1-year old The Boy. I should be high-tailing it on a laser-focused career track. We need to be stockpiling as much money as freakishly possible for my 65th birthday, which is when I’m supposed to start living life. And which, of course, I’m guaranteed to reach.

But the dream persisted in our minds, in the form of “Wouldn’t it be fun to…?” Thanks to Cool Mum’s Google skill and a landmark conversation at Chick Fil-A (where else?), the dream suddenly looked possible. And after applications, interviews, extremely stressful timing, and not allowing ourselves to get excited about it before it was settled, it’s coming true…

It all started when I was a Cool Embryo and ok i’ll spill the beans. The Cool Fam is moving to New York City!

Wait, we need more of these: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never said it was an original dream, but it’s big to us. We’ve only been once, back in 2005 for a few days. We loved it, which I’m sure 99.5% of tourists do. However, visiting wasn’t enough. We’ve each had a fascination with the city for a long time. All the people, all the culture, all the food crammed into one skyscraping mess.

Important details about our adventure:

- We’re only living there for a year; I’m taking a 1-year job.
- This “job” is actually a paid volunteer position with a non-profit agency.
- The “pay” is not much, considering the cost of living in NYC.
- This causes friends and family to shake their heads and tsk tsk at this news.

As you’d imagine, the Cool Grandparents were not excited about this. However, we praise God that we have parents that support our choices, even if they don’t agree with them. It was rough for a little while, but I think we are still cool with them.

Time for a lame excuse! With all of this going down, along with my job ending, packing, planning our travel, and keeping the boy from going Incredible Hulk on the kitchen cabinets that we’re trying to sell along with the house, it’s been a little hard to regularly post. I’m just sayin…

So, that’s what’s up with us. Our dream is happening. God-willing, we’ll get up there in September and find a safe, affordable apartment close to parks, cheap restaurants, and value-friendly supermarkets. OK, there are dreams and then there’s just crazy talk.

Regardless, we’re trusting God to provide! We’ll keep you updated. I have a feeling that the next year of posts will be about trying to be cool parents in the big city. And how much I miss Chick Fil-A. Either way, it’s a dream come true!
