Looking for players 2-4

Cool Mum did more partying with her friends yesterday, so the boy and I hung out with her friend’s husband for a guys’ day.

Of course, this involved video games. What did you expect, knitting? (by the way, due to the success of last week’s chat, the Bloggers’ Knitting Convention will be indefinitely postponed. Let’s chat this Monday night at 9:00p EST!)

And no, we didn’t ignore the boy. We played with him, he watched us play, we ate together, he napped. A good guys’ day.

One thing I learned from the day: I need to know more geeks.

I grew up playing video games, but fell away after we got married. The Wii brought me back. I like having people over, so I loved the social aspect of the Wii.

And I prefer playing games with people over watching movies or TV. You interact with each other, whether you’re competing or cooperating.

However, almost none of my friends grew up gaming or have any interest in games now. That means I have some crazy-fun multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, but no multiplayers (aww). And playing online with strangers might as well be playing against the computer.

So, I need some geeky buds. Maybe I should hang around Best Buy or the sci-fi section of Borders. I know geeks are out there. I can feel them in the Force.

Or I could ditch the Wii and take up hiking and swimming and running.

I think I’d rather knit.

Yes, we are out there and some how we even end up on your blog. This last weekend, I borrowed my buddy’s Wii and introduced my parents to Wii Sports this with the help of my 5 year daughter. It was awesome to see my mom excited about beating my dad in tennis. (I don’t think that I’ve ever seen my mother play a video game.)
All four of us had a great time.

I’m in my early 30′s and I still get together with several other geek dads to have LAN parties ever other month or so. We tend to do Xbox or older PC games.

I’ve also got my wife addicted to the Xbox Live version of Carcassonne.

I’m so addicted to Mario Kart right now! I can’t find where I wrote my code down, but if you give me yours I’ll remember to get mine later. That is if you would like to play through the wifi friends deally.

christopher – we introduced both sets of parents to the Wii last Christmas. some of the best Christmas pictures we’ve ever taken!

that’s cool that you have buds to still be guys with. sometimes you just need that guy time.

reese – sweet! when i hook up the Wii again, i’ll email you my code.

what’s your Vs. VR rating? I think mine is 5200-something. i’m barely OK at the game.

Yeah, I miss my gaming. I had a 360 and got rid of it. I plan on getting another one this November for Gears 2. Xbox Live is awesome. My best friend and I kept in touch by playing Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory on Live when I lived in Texas and he was in Tally.

I think my rating is just over 6000, which was pretty hard to get to for me.
