Why I like U2

So there’s this band from Dublin, Ireland that we like called U2. For Randy Elrod’s Watercooler Wednesday, I was thinking about what I like about these guys.

There is plenty of music that I love, but I rarely like or even care to know anything about the artists themselves. It’s different with these guys. Since U2 is one of the most talked-to-death subjects in American Christendom, we’ll do quick hits.

  • That 3 Christians can love and create with a non-Christian (from what I know) with great harmony
  • The Edge crafted his own sound and has inspired countless guitarists to date
  • That a band can stay together for so long and still make good music. This includes overcoming personal and collective hardships.
  • Bono’s desire to use his celebrity to accomplish good around the world
  • They demand and exude excellence, but can laugh at themselves when they fall short
  • The music and the spirit of it. It always feels important, whether it challenges you or sends you soaring.

As much as I like being different, I gladly fall in with the millions of other U2 fans. That’s a big step for me, so the guys must be doing something right!

Love, love, love U2! There’s so much TO love. And I love them even more now…my friends were just in Ireland doing a worship internship at the Vineyard out there with Kathryn Scott. They actually met Bono! They said he was amazing, and they mostly talked about his (and their) passion for AIDS and Africa, etc. Then he signed their little son’s (RED) onsie from the Gap! How cool would THAT be?!
