The loop

I need to get work done! But every time I open Firefox to look up something work-related or just to check my email, I fall into my loop.

My loop is the group of sites that I just HAVE to visit every time I touch the world wide web. These aren’t sites that I might check once a day, like Facebook, NBA.com (for Celtics highlights), or the Wii page at IGN. These are sites that I visit basically every time I open Firefox.

COOL DAD’S LOOP
iGoogle – contains Gmail, Reader, Talk, weather, thesaurus (i’m a cheater)
Digg
CNN
Sports Illustrated
Slickdeals
and of course, awsc?

Now that I look at it, the list isn’t that long. It could be worse.

Cool Mum’s loop would look much different from mine. She’s vowed to slash her computer time during the day, so when she sees this and makes her loop, I’ll add it.

What’s in your loop?

I use bloglines and right now I have 47 feeds… is that bad? Plus that doesn’t include all the “news” sites I check – Yahoo!, Drudge, Gainesville Sun, SunSentinal, EW.com, etc., etc., etc….

  2. cool dad says:

Drudge used to be in the loop, but I guess I fell away. How’s it doing these days?

  3. brody says:

    Just your site… that’s all…

  4. cool dad says:

most of Brody’s whole internet experience depends on us. the pressure’s on!

    um…

the boy did a good solid poop yesterday…

    sorry, that’s all i got.

  5. Justmatt says:

Solid poops are important! Thanks for the update.

What a great thing to be aware of.

I think there’s times when I’ve checked my ‘loop’ two or three times in one minute!

My loop probably consists of my work email, gmail, google reader, delicious, amazon.com, and my bank. No matter how many times I go to them, the same info never gets old!

  7. cool dad says:

No problem! We’re here to inform.

Thanks for checking us out, Jim!

    My Internet routine:

    Three different e-mail accounts

    Facebook

    My blog and blogroll sites

    FoxNews

    Yahoo Sports

    ESPN

    Cleveland Sports (Cavs, Indians, Browns)

  9. cool dad says:

I check ESPN a good amount, too, but for some reason I like SI better. Like I think the site is easier on the eyes or something…

  10. randy says:

I only look at blogs. Im boring i know.

im not much into sport and the news is so complicated these days i just wait for bombs to drop and then i read about it.

  11. cool dad says:

blogs are definitely cooler than any news sites. much more fun to connect with people rather than read about celebrities and their rehab.

  12. steve and randel hambrick says:

ok, so now you’ve got me looking at slickdeals. i’ve never heard of that one… i can tell i’m gonna be obsessed..

my loop is email, fox news, googlereader for blog updates, facebook, and sometimes ebay. kind of boring…

  13. portorikan says:

For me, it’s just whatever is in the Feedreader. I use FeedDemon at work and NetNewsWire at home when the time allows.

I definitely hit up my wife’s blog to read her crazy dreams, and a wordpress.com to see if there are any new comments left after mine.

  14. cool dad says:

hambricks – my favorite deal: i got a new $70 laptop bag for $5! what a great site.

sam – i saw your wife has a blog now. i’ll check it out. God has def. used dreams in my life.

    Sometimes it varies…usually it goes:

    -Yahoo mail/Gmail
-Craigslist (house hunting at the moment)
    -Facebook
    -myspace
    -Flickr
    -my blog :)
    -CNN
    -TulsaWorld.com

Then my blogroll, although that is less frequently checked at times. I fall in with jimkastkeat on this one…sometimes it seems like I check every minute, especially on a slow day! haha

  16. cool mum says:

Thanks to iGoogle, I’m very efficient at looking at the same stuff over and over again.

    My loop:
    1. iGoogle containing Gmail, Reader, weather, Calendar, news
    2. Facebook

Don’t be impressed. I’m a champion of the refresh button. Sadly.

  17. cool dad says:

rachel – oh, i could spend an eternity of Flickr. good thing it’s not in my loop!

CM – the F5 button also refreshes, so you could click Refresh with one finger and F5 with another for super-quick refreshing!

  18. Tam says:

I can get so lost on the web so I try to keep it simple. I visit my homepage, email, yahoo and then split my blogroll up each day. I visit half one day and half the next and so on…and once in awhile I’ll throw laundry in there. OH, and I might feed my man and kids too =)

  19. cool dad says:

well, if you don’t wanna get off the computer, you can just order something delivery online!

  20. Tam says:

    Brilliant!!!!
