Kat’s Music Monday is about great love songs, so since we’re lovers, not fighters, here are our picks.
cool mum
I just realized my songs have quite a similar theme of the man being in pursuit of the woman, with some possible unrequited love mixed in. I like it.
WITH OR WITHOUT YOU
U2
Rather than write a novel, I’ll let the World’s Greatest Song Ever speak for itself.
WE’VE GOT TONIGHT
Joe Cocker
This became a favorite when I first saw the scene below on the Wonder Years and it made me cry. And I NEVER cry!
cool dad
Following Kat’s lead, here are my serious and sorta cheesy (but i still like it!) entries. I’ll leave it as an exercise to the reader to figure out which one’s which.
I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU
Bon Jovi
I wasn’t a big Bon Jovi fan, probably because everyone else liked them. But this song brought out the romantic in me. I got to dance with my crush to this song at a junior high dance. I probably walked (rode home with my mom) on air afterwards.
AMOR DE CONUCO
Juan Luis Guerra
I’m sort of stealing this one from CM. I gave her JLG’s incredible album Ni Es Lo Mismo Ni Es Igual and she loved this song. The lyrics are simple yet cut to the heart. WARR.org describes this acoustic remake (he released it before) as “devastating”. I couldn’t agree more.
From this site, a translation of the first verse:
Tell me if you will love me
I am a man of little words, Consuelo
I don’t have much to offer
a shack, a rooster and starlight
and the morning light
which comes in through the window, my darling
the rivers and the mountain
and the wind which combs your hair
I would like to offer you the world, but I can’t

CLOSE TO YOU
The Carpenters
When we were dating, we adopted this song. Thirty years late, I know, but it just captured the sweet sappiness that embodied our relationship. It was our first dance at our reception and I’m sure everyone was laughing/throwing up a little inside. We don’t care. It’s our song.
CM says: This is the first time I’ve ever watched a Carpenters video. Wow. The only way I would let CD post a video for this song is if he used the one where she’s playing the drums. That is the ONLY thing even close to cool about this video.

Funny post. Great songs. Nice hair in that last video…
WOW! Karen Carpenters got skill! I didn’t know she played the drums too! My sons a drummer. He’ll think she rocks!
kat – thanks for the great topic!
tam – yeah, she was cool.
