The year-end awsc? TPS report – 2007

Now that 2007 is over, we might as well look back. Most people do these end-of-year things like, at the end of the year, but here at AWSC?, we gotta be a little different (and lazy). So, here are some thoughts about ’07.

Most memorable place visited
The “baby room” at the church we worked with in Germany. I spent many hours feeding and changing the tiniest member of the mission group there. It became a second home. The cool part about bringing a baby on a mission trip is that you have a good excuse to skip some of the less-exciting team meetings!

A new parent’s guide to being cool… – I don’t like the way it’s worded, but this is the sarcastic post that inspired the blog to begin with. It made me start really laughing at myself and questioning my sudden need to feel like I’m cool even though I’m someone’s mom.

Most listened to song
Mandisa’s “Only the World” – my plunge into 24/7 Christian radio listening (eek) after the baby was born. This song seemed to play every single morning when I sat him at the breakfast table with me. There was some dancing involved. Cool Dad made fun of me until it stopped.

Most prevailing life thought
“I LOVE THIS BABY!!!” and of course, “Are we still cool?”

Most memorable food
The first Hebrew National hot dogs I ate after 9 months of abstaining due to the pregnancy. Absolutely delicious.

Wanted to do, but didn’t
I had planned on making shirts for the baby with cool U2 lyrics. It hasn’t happened yet, but there’s still time!

Most complained about
“There’s nothing to eat,” which really means, “I don’t want to cook.”

Spent too much time doing
I got into a bad habit of checking email and facebook like every five minutes.

Learned from pregnancy
God is good! He also knows how to erase bad memories from my mind.

Learned from baby
Have more fun. Laugh more. Make funny faces for no reason.

Misc. fun memories

  • Wearing maternity clothes that were better looking than my normal wardrobe.
  • Getting the royal treatment from Cool Dad all year.
  • Hysterical laughing sessions.
  • Staying up late to watch every single episode of the Wonder Years on the Ion channel. I think it took about four months.

Most memorable place visited
We only spent like an hour there as it was late in the day, but when I think of our trip to Europe, our quick trip to Pisa just pops in my mind. I guess that leaning tower is just so iconic that it’s burned into my memory. Pisa doesn’t hold our most meaningful or heartfelt times, I just think of it first. And we don’t usually get sappy here.

OK, I’ll get a little sappy: the one about All baby detergent. I like how this one was concise, sentimental, and flowed & ended well. Even the title had a little play on words.

Most listened to song
“Suspension” by Mae

Most recurring life thought
I’m 30 and it’s time to work for my dreams.

Most memorable food
Beef goulash with spätzle and peas, lovingly prepared by cooks at the church in Germany where we did mission work.

Thing you wanted to do, but didn’t
I really wanted to finish my screenplay. During Christmas vacation, I made a good run. I’m close, but not there yet.

Most complained about
Our living room carpet bunching up. I suspect nights of Wii Bowling and Tennis with overzealous friends did the cheap entry-level carpet in.

Spent too much time doing
Dinking around with CSS to design this site and several others I’m associated with. It’s usually trial-and-error for me. I should just take the time to learn it for good.

Learned from pregnancy
Have no expectations. Pray for a healthy, happy baby whether you push him out or have a C-section, whether it takes 5 hours or 25 hours. Just expect for God to be loving, faithful, and glorious.

Learned from baby
“He’s just a baby!” That’s what Cool Mum says when I get frustrated with him crying or squirming/breakdancing during a diaper change. I’m still learning, but it’s already sunk in.

Misc. fun memories

  • Feeling the boy moving in the belly
  • Cool Mum’s determination during labor. She was strong.
  • Getting the boy to laugh with the few German words I know
  • Making the GOP nominees post
  • Gators winning the football and basketball championships

I don’t really know what TPS report is, but I thought to comment. “Suspension” by Mae is one of my favorite songs (and bands). That whole album reminds me of the best and worst of times in the last year or two, really. :)

+3 cool points for listening to Mae (and listing them here!)

Maybe I’ll do an 07 recap post soon. Happy Friday!

  2. cool dad says:

Yeah, The Everglow is pretty phenomenal. We look forward to your recap!

  3. Rachel says:

    It’s up. :)

  4. Schell Mama says:

Do you mind that I “borrowed” your report and used it as my own (with my own answers of course)? You guys are great fun to read!

  5. cool mum says:

Jami–We’re glad to inspire! Sounds like we’ve had a somewhat similar year last year…very cool! And amen to the laundry comment…made me realize I have some rotting in the washer right now. oops.

  6. cool dad says:

AWSC? snapshot: Cool Mum and I are on our laptops waiting to see who flinches and gets the laundry out first.

  7. Tam says:

Cool Mum…Hebrew Nationals are the best! The only dogs I’ll eat!

And I agree too that Mandisa’s song is infectious! I might have tried to get my groove on a time or two with that song. But, thankfully, for all mankind it was in my car and no one had to see me =)

    Great Blog! I’m loving it!

  8. Tam says:

OH – and who flinched first?

I have washed the same load multiple times…between you all and I. And have “de-wrinkled” the same dryer load too many times to mention.

  9. cool mum says:

Well, no one flinched. So I’m going to go handle it because Cool Dad just got the baby back to sleep. (I’m serious, that kid senses me in the room and any chance of sleep is out the window! Ooh, I think I like this new discovery…)

  10. cool dad says:

CM, it’s purely coincidental. I’ve seen him take many sound naps in your arms. I’m not getting stuck with sleep duty!
