Old school and dried drool

I love old school hip-hop.

It’s my brother’s fault. It was the mid-1980s and we were recent transplants from New England to rural central Florida. Maybe it was a backlash against the country culture or maybe it just really spoke to him, but he embraced Run D.M.C., Whodini, The Fat Boys, and many others who would have garnered a large police response if their tour came through town (which would NEVER happen anyway).

I got into it, too. I have fond memories of him blasting hip-hop while playing M.U.L.E. on his Atari 800XL. (Wikipedia will get some traffic from this post)

I write best when something can inspire me. It can be anything: a song, a picture, a Scripture verse. Well, I’ve been listening to a lot of old rap lately, so I figured, why not write about that?

We like recurring themes, so introducing our latest regular feature: Thumb Sucker MC! I know sucker MC is a dis, but I couldn’t resist how apt it became when you add the ‘thumb’.

I’ll take a verse from a favorite song and relate it to baby life. We’ll kick off with something familiar soon. Yeeeeahhh boyyy!

Ah, looks like someone is “trying way too hard to be cool” again. And that’s even assuming people out there think old school hip-hop IS actually cool…?

Well, I do give you credit for doing whatever it takes to keep this blog creative and useful, since we promised ourselves we wouldn’t turn it into an online baby book. Go Cool Dad!

“Trying way too hard to be cool??” What’s up with dissin’ a man in front of his crew? Don’t be frontin’ The Quiet Storm in this crib, ya know what I’m sayin’???

(oh, and did you wash my argyle sweater vest for the Christmas party tomorrow night?)

I am so with you! Old Skool Hip Hop rocks! There is not a time when me and my good friends from high school (we’re known as “The Coop”) get together that the beastie boys don’t get drug out and we dance around like we are them. Not a pretty site for 3 30 yr old males.

Ahh, Licensed to Ill. I loved that tape! I believe the Beasties will find their way on here before too long.

Yeah you might actually loose cool points for them not being on here already…although having DMC adds points – so it may be a wash!
