A crib sheet on crib sheets

Some things you may not know about baby crib sheets if you don’t have a baby…

1. You know that feeling of frustration when you’re putting an ordinary sheet on an ordinary mattress and that last corner is just a little too short? Multiply that by ten and you will begin to understand the hardships caused by baby crib sheets. Yes, a tight-fitting sheet is necessary for a safe crib. But, somehow the crib sheet makers have left us with a task roughly equivalent to trying to stretch a baby’s sock over his dad’s entire foot.

2. Approximately 90% of crib sheet changings are performed in the middle of the night due to leaky diapers (my personal statistics). In addition, sleep deprivation severely reduces the overall efficiency and enjoyability of the process.

3. The task cannot be done with one hand, so it usually requires two people–one to change the diaper/hold the upset baby and the other to be the sheet changer. If given the choice, always choose the one that does not involve bending each corner of the mattress backward with all of your might while forcing a tiny sheet corner over it. Start the negotiations now!

For some reason, I cannot STAND changing crib sheets. I do it, but I complain every time.

Phil. 2:14 – Do everything without complaining or arguing

Dang. Still, I get annoyed because you have to wrestle to get the mattress pad on, and then wrestle to get the sheet on top of that, and then wrestle with the mattress to not mess up the crib bumpers or skirt.

Who do I look like, The Rock? (other than the massive arms and hulky physique)

Well, I just changed the crib sheets with no (or little) resistance. I told Cool Mum since I shouldn’t complain while doing anything, then I shouldn’t change the crib sheets.

    That logic didn’t work.

I have to admit that I hate changing crib sheets more than I hate changing my baby’s diaper! Since we have the mattress set at the highest setting, I have to stand on the wobbly nursing stool to get the sheets on and almost eat it every time. It’s quite the sight to see. Good thing my baby’s not old enough to remember any of this–definintly no cool mom points for me!

    Rhoda,
I had totally forgotten about the fact that one of these days (soon) I’m going to have to change the mattress level. Oh my goodness…that is going to be quite a challenge. Someone needs to invent a better solution to this crib sheet problem!

Early on, I tried the “sheet saver” things I got at Target and they didn’t save ANY sheets. The best things I’ve found are called “lap pads”…you can put them down on top of the sheet to absorb some of the wetness before it reaches the sheets. Of course, my little guy often soaks through those too.

If you find a solution, please share!

I thought this was hysterical, and very accurate. I absolutely hate fighting with the bumper pads as well. I finally took them off of our little one’s bed and apparently, that was the one thing that was keeping the pacifier within the perimeter of the bed. Now, I have to move the bed several times a day to retrieve the pacifier. She may broken of that habit sooner than intended.
