Hard partiers

Last weekend, my brother (Cool Uncle, or CU), came for a visit. As he was driving, he called to say he wanted to take us out for a nice dinner. So very kind of him! But uh-oh.

Nice dinner out with a baby? Are those words anywhere on the Web without a question mark at the end? (Google says no.)

Even before the little guy, we didn’t go out much on Friday nights since either my band would play or we would just relax at home. So, a nice dinner out would be a big deal even then.

CU really wanted it to be a nice place, but the dilemma was: were there any “nice” places that would be OK with a baby rollin’ through the door?

We headed downtown for dinner around 7:00. We ate at a great Pan-Latin place that’s nice, but also loud & casual. So, if there was a cranky episode, it wouldn’t have been that bad.

We were there for about 2.5 hours, past baby’s bedtime, but he was fine. I must confess that I enjoy all the admiring smiles and stares that the guy gets. And the food and time spent with CU were awesome.

Out late (for us) on a Friday night in a nice restaurant full of people much hipper than us? +5 cool points for us.

note: Hey, that’s a great idea! We’ll start keeping track of cool points to gauge how cool we are as we go through this parenting thing. I’ll come up with some rules and post about that soon.
